Original soundtrack to "Przyziemnie/DOWN TO EARTH"

curators: Bogna Stefańska and Kuba Depczyński
5-episode experimental podcast commisioned by Łaźnia CCA

Within the series of podcasts called “Down to Earth” we are making the effort to understand the climate catastrophe. We are listening carefully to numerous voices, stories and theories in order to understand what in fact we are dealing with, and what we can do about it. We don’t need to prove that the danger is real. We are aware that this catastrophe is multidimensional, taking place here and now, its consequences being faced by many people on the whole planet, including Poland. Within “Down to Earth” we are composting the hitherto humanistic matter to obtain productive ground for cultivating new ideas. Perhaps they will help us find the answer to the question of how to live in a world which is irretrievably changing.

Each of the episodes features both the invited experts in sociology, psychology, philosophy, economy, political sciences or social activism, as well as artists who speak about the influence the climate crisis has on their artistic practice, and how creative tools can be used to act on behalf of constructing our common future on this planet.

We regard the whole project as a sound exhibition that enables us to introduce ideas, practices and people – theoreticians and creatives. That is why it was so crucial to give it a form of an audio feature, produced by Justyna Banaszczyk/FOQL – a sound artist, electronic music creator, co-founder of the Oramics collective and Kapitał Radio. The field recordings and music compositions prepared especially for the sake of this project by Justyna, are fundamental for the whole material, constituting a vital background for the entire narration, thanks to which this podcast can be received as intellectually engaging, personal and esthetically attractive.

Guests: Ewa Bińczyk, Joanna Brzezińska, Diana Lelonek, Tomasz Markiewka, Andrzej Marzec, Zuzia Derlacz i Olga Roszkowska, Filip Wesołowski, Izabela Zygmunt.

Mastering of the podcast: Radek Sirko.

Media partners: Fundacja Bęc Zmiana, Notes na 6 Tygodni, Radio Kapitał, SZUM, Trójmiasto.pl

Justyna Banaszczyk

Experimental electronic music and sound artist, author of radio dramas, film scores, and video game soundtracks. Her tracks bring to mind IDM and industrial, but their most distinctive feature are complex rhythms and often harsh sounds, constant exploration and contradicting the artist’s own musical identity – a trait that is reflected in her largely improvised live performances. Together with a performer and sound artist Edka Jarząb co-creates also the noise duo Mother Earth's Doom Vibes. Occasionally reaches for vinyls and four-track tape recorders to create sound collages and mixtapes under the moniker Głupiec (meaning “fool”). She was also former member of Oramics collective (2017-2019), which aimed at promoting equality and educational activities on the electronic and club scene. One of the collective's greatest successes was the release of the charity compilation "Total Solidarity", which reached the media around the world. Justyna co-runs Pointless Geometry label, which releases experimental electronic music. She is also co-founder of Radio Kapitał, the first community radio in Poland. SHAPE Platform artist in 2020, nominated by Unsound.
